Amazon Prime Day ̵
Casper and Tuft & Needle, two premium brands, lead the charge with 20% discounts. But if you don’t like the look of the mattresses on offer on Amazon, there are several counter-Prime Day sales going on at other stores and several mattress retailers are included. Discount options range from Leesa to Purple to Avocado Green. If you’re not sure what type of mattress you’re looking for, take a look at my story on the best mattress from each brand to help guide your search.
The best Prime Day mattress offers
Casper Sleep Element
Casper’s Sleep Element mattress is an impressive 20% for Prime Day. I’m a huge fan of Casper’s mattresses and this is a great example of a simple foam mattress done right. It uses a comfortable base foam topped with their Airscape foam layer for perfect breathability.
The super soft lining can be easily zipped off and washed. The 2020 mattress is a little shorter than the 2019 version, but due to the Airscape layer it will sleep softer. You have 100 nights to decide, but the reviews are extremely positive for the sleep element.
Original tuft and needle mattress
At the other end of the Tuft & Needle product line is their original mattress. This is more expensive than the Nod, but it comes with some serious intelligent materials engineering. The top layer is a gel and graphite compound that absorbs moisture and regulates temperature, keeping you dry and cool regardless of your sleeping situation. The pressure-relieving foam is great for anyone who has a hard time waking up in pain every morning.
For Prime Day you can buy the original Tuft & Needle mattress with a 10% discount. You have 100 nights to decide if you like it, so you have nothing to lose. With over 10,000 ratings on Amazon and 81% of those 4-5 stars, it’s a good indicator that this is a deal that will get you a good night’s sleep.
Tuft & Needle nod
Nod is an interesting entry in the mail mattress business. An Amazon exclusive, Tuft & Needle (known for its luxury mattresses) has reduced the mattress to the essentials. The result is a no-frills, yet comfortable offering that costs hundreds less than other mattresses. And for Prime Day (which should really be called “Prime Days” at this point, but I’m digressing) you can get this already cheap mattress for a 20% discount, going down close to $ 300 for a queen and under $ 400 for a king! With nearly 1,400 reviews and an impressive 73% of five-star reviews, the Nod mattress is a great deal that will keep you satisfied.
The Avocado Green Mattress is one of the most comfortable mattresses I have had the pleasure of sleeping on. Avocado uses no chemicals in the manufacture of its mattress. The wool layers are ethically sourced New Zealand wool. Below is certified organic latex, made from the Avocado tree forest. The coil system has five zones and there is a steel reinforced rim. Without the optional topper, avocado green sleeps well – 7 out of 10. With the plush topper it’s a 6 out of 10, albeit maybe a little softer too.
The only drawback (aside from the high price) is that all those wonderful organic materials are heavy. It’s the heaviest mattress I’ve ever had to move. With me and two other adults, we struggled to do something as simple as taking the Avocado out of its box and placing it on the bed frame.
Even then, I was worried it was too heavy for my bed. If you plan on getting an Avocado, make sure you have a sturdy bed frame (perhaps something that is also ethically sourced and manufactured like the Thuma bed). It’s a good thing that there are heavy duty handles built into the sides for ease of movement, but I wouldn’t think of doing that often. If you want to try it, now is a great time. Avocado is offering a $ 175 discount from now through October 19 with the code Green175.
Purple Hybrid Premier
The Purple Hybrid Premier mattress is topped with a grid of its own Purple Grid material. Its open design is not only extremely supportive, it has also been crafted to relieve pressure and allow airflow around your body, something many foam toppers struggle to do. The result is a mattress that cradles you, relieves pain and keeps you cool. The Purple Grid takes some getting used to if you’re used to firmer mattresses.
Although it provides the support of a firm mattress, the material feels soft and soft to the touch. You can get a Purple Grid 3 “topper on the Hybrid Premier instead of the 4” level to fight it a bit. For an even firmer sleep, there’s the Purple Hybrid mattress or the original Purple Mattress which only has a 2-inch layer of grid material. Even better, you can get free Purple sheets and a free Purple pillow with the purchase of each mattress right now during their 5th Anniversary Sale (funny how it happened to coincide with Amazon Prime Day).
The original Leesa mattress was the first mattress I’ve ever reviewed and is still one of the best. They and Casper were the pioneers of the boxed bed industry and after sleeping on Leesa’s original foam mattress, it’s easy to see why it made such a success. The cover is very soft, it’s almost a shame to cover it with sheets. The mattress itself consists of only three layers: a cooling foam, a supportive memory foam and a base foam layer.
While the original may be the most popular mattress on the Leesa site, they have a number of hybrid mattresses available for those looking for a softer, more luxurious sleep. And during their third annual mattress sale between now and October 26, you can get hundreds of dollars off all of their mattresses.
