A Californian restaurant has closed the refusal of customers to wear masks, harassment of employees




A taco restaurant in Los Angeles temporarily closed both of its locations on Sunday, raising concerns about the safety of its employees as some customers refused to wear masks and reportedly harassed staff for asking them to do so.

“Our taco stands are exhausted by constant conflicts,” read a declaration from Hugo’s Tacos, which has restaurants in Atwater Village and Studio City. “The staff was harassed, called the name and objects and liquids were thrown at him. A mask is not symbolic of anything other than our desire to keep our staff healthy “.


The message was shared on social media and recorded on multiple windows outside both restaurants. Executive chef Nabor Diaz told KTLA5 that closure was needed because he didn’t have enough employees who felt confident enough to go to work as it was.



“At this point, we believe it is really important for us to put our crew’s safety first,” he said.

In San Francisco, a restaurant that closed due to concerns of guests who wore no masks recently reopened for delivery and takeaway on June 5. Cassava had been closed since April 15th. At the time, owner Yuka Ioroi said the move had been made in part to urge city officials to charge the face. This order was subsequently executed in San Francisco on April 22.

It is not clear when the Hugo Tacos will reopen. The restaurant asked its clientele to check for updates on its website and social media accounts, thanking the “majority” of their guests, “who are always respectful and kind.”


A GoFundMe staff campaign was also launched on Sunday, which raised nearly half of its $ 10,000 fundraising goal by 3.15pm Later that evening, the fundraising goal was exceeded and increased for $ 50,000. The funds will be equally distributed among employees of both locations to compensate for lost wages.

“By staying at work, Hugo’s Tacos employees not only provided essential service in the early days of Covid-19, but also sought to feed their families,” read the campaign description.
