A couple from North Carolina who have been married for more than 50 years died of the novel coronavirus minutes away while holding hands, CNN reports.
The family of Johnny Lee Peoples and Cathy “Darlene” Peoples say they hope the story reminds people that the virus is real.
“Mom and Dad have lived hand in hand for 50 years years, they died hand-to-hand, now walking to heaven hand-to-hand, “their son, Shane Peoples told CNN.” The message our family would like to convey is that Covid is real. It is not a hoax or a joke. Our parents took the necessary precautions, but tragically they still contracted the virus “.
According to CNN, the couple began experiencing symptoms of COVID-1
The hospital said they both struggled with breathing with the virus due to previous illnesses.
The family says on September 1 they were told that the couple had no chance of surviving. The next day their fans were taken out in the same room and died moments apart next to each other.
“My parents have not only been a blessing to me, my brother, my sister, our spouses and our children. They have been a blessing to every person who has met them,” the post reads. “I just wish everyone could see them through my eyes. You would see the two most loving and caring couples ever. Without them, this world has become a little darker.”
“We have to squat down and get through this fall and winter because it’s not going to be easy,” Fauci said earlier this month.
“We’ve been there before,” he said. “Never, ever underestimate the potential of the pandemic. And don’t try to look at the rosy side of things. “
