Animal Crossing: New Horizons Dreaming Guide – Dream addresses, How to dream

Animal Crossing: New Horizons 1.4.0 update has brought several new features, including an important online component of Animal Crossing: New Leaf on 3DS – Dream Suite! Now you can dream in New Horizons, which means you can visit carbon copies of other players’ islands and upload one of yours to be visited by other people. In this way, you can explore the islands of other players while they are offline – perhaps to get some decorative inspiration, for example – and show off your island without fear that people will step on your flowers or steal objects.

Below we describe in detail everything you need to know about dreams in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, including requirements, what you are allowed to do in a dream, how to visit a dream island and how to load your island.

How to dream in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

  • It requires: Internet connection with a Nintendo Online subscription, 1x bed

To dream in New Horizons, you will need an Internet connection and an active Nintendo Online membership. You will also need any type of bed in the game; you should have received Luna’s bed in the mail after downloading the update, but anything you can lie on will do it. Once you lie down, you will be given a dialog prompt; select “Yes, I want to sleep” to start dreaming.

The first time you do this, you will meet a tapir named Luna who acts as a guide for dreaming. Luna will guide you through the basics of the dream before you can start sailing or loading your island.

How to visit the islands of dreams

Your first option when dreaming is to visit the other players’ islands. To do this, you will need your destination dream address. Similar to Switch friend codes or New Horizons creator codes, dream addresses are 12-digit codes preceded by “DA”. A friend will have to give you his dream address, or you will have to find one by browsing websites like Reddit and Twitter.

To enter a dream address and visit another player’s island in a dream, follow these steps:

  • Lie on any bed and select “Yes, I want to sleep”
  • Select “I want to dream”
  • Enter the desired dream address

Once Luna has connected you to the Internet and downloaded the island of dreams, you will appear on your bed in the square of the island of dreams so you can start exploring.

What can you do on a dream island?

While on an island, you can explore thoroughly, enter the houses of the inhabitants and players, visit the museum and talk to the villagers; however, resident Services, Able Sisters or Nook’s Cranny cannot be accessed. Also, you can’t carry any items with you – Luna “will keep” the items in your pocket until you wake up – and you won’t keep anything you find on the island.

You can also use the terminal outside Resident Services, which is the same kiosk you normally find in Able Sisters, to download any personalized player design. For more information on how it works, check out our guide to custom designs in New Horizons.

How to leave a dream island

When you are done exploring a dream island, go back to your bed outside the resident services and lie down again. Follow Luna’s instructions to “wake up” and return to your real island.

How to report a dream island

If you encounter a dream island with inappropriate content, you can press the minus button to report it while you are still in the dream. Luna will “wake you up”.

How to load your island

In addition to exploring other players’ dream islands, you can also upload a dream version of your island that others can visit. To do this and generate your dream address:

  • Lie on any bed and select “Yes, I want to sleep”
  • Select “I would like to share a dream”

You can then share the address of your dreams with other players.
