Avery Bradley to receive the ring after the Lakers championship: ‘I watched every single game’

Avery Bradley may not have played for the Los Angeles Lakers in the Orlando bubble, but he was an integral part of the first part of their league season. Bradley started on guard for most of the season and scored the team̵

7;s highest net score aside from LeBron James and Alex Caruso. He ultimately decided not to go to Orlando due to health issues involving his son, but Bradley didn’t give up on the team.

“I’ve watched every single game,” Bradley told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin and Malika Andrews. “I’m still a Laker.”

According to McMenamin and Andrews, Bradley was in close contact with the team during the playoffs, texting teammates after major games and talking to general manager Rob Pelinka before each round. Pelinka, Quinn Cook, and assistant coach Phil Handy all talked to Bradley on FaceTime from the locker room after winning the title. The Lakers have not forgotten his contributions.

Bradley revealed in July that the Lakers informed him of their plans to offer him a championship ring if they won it all, and McMenamin and Andrews confirmed this. Less clear is whether DeMarcus Cousins will receive one. Cousins signed a one-year contract with the Lakers during the 2019 off-season but tore his ACL in an August workout and never played a game for the team. He was revoked in February to make room for Markieff Morris, but is still technically eligible for a ring.

Cousins is a free agent this summer. Bradley may be, but he has a $ 5 million player option. His regular season play deserves an increase, but given difficult market conditions and his absence from the playoffs, he looks more likely to return to the roster next season fighting to help the Lakers repeat themselves as champions.

Even if they don’t, Bradley has more than earned his jewelry. The Lakers earned the No. 1 in the Western Conference based largely on the success of their early lineup before entering the bubble. That fifth, with Bradley, James, Anthony Davis, JaVale McGee and Danny Green, had the seventh best plus-minus of any five-man lineup in basketball at +98. During the regular season, that same group with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope replacing Bradley was beaten by 13. Bradley helped the Lakers take the top seed, which ultimately helped them win the title. Even though he never plays Los Angeles again, he should be fondly remembered for that alone.
