Baidu completes its self-driving car computer

You will see the ACU in use quickly. It will feed Apollo Valet Parking, a collaboration with WM Motor that will automatically collect you and otherwise optimize the car collection and return service without the need for drivers. It should be launched in the second half of 2020 and could be useful during a pandemic, when you probably don’t want other people to touch your car.

The company isn’t the only one working on self-driving computers. NVIDIA is rapidly landing deals with GM, Toyota and others that could make it a powerhouse, for example. However, Baidu may be the first to put a platform in real-world use (albeit limited). This, in turn, could stimulate competition and increase the chances of directly experiencing driverless cars.
