Mariah Carey is known for her refusal to recognize time nearly as much as she is known for her voice. The “All I Want for Christmas Is You” singer recently explained why she doesn’t pay attention to the years.
How old is Mariah Carey?
Carey was reportedly born on March 27, 1970. For her birthday party earlier this year, she posted a message on Instagram with the hashtag “eternally 12.” The singer is determined to stay young forever.
This isn’t the first time Carey has expressed her desire to stop time. During the popular 10-year social media challenge, Carey chose to do it to send identical images of herself taken that day. “I haven’t received this challenge in 10 years,” Carey wrote. “Photo taken earlier today.”
Because Mariah Carey doesn’t recognize time
Carey explains in her book The meaning of Mariah Carey, because it does not recognize time. One of the reasons he gives is that he wants to be in control of how his life measures.
“Life has made me find my way of being in this world,” Carey wrote. “Why spoil the trip by looking at the clock and the years go by? So many things happened to me before anyone knew my name, time seems like an inadequate way to measure or record it. “
Carey says she didn’t really start living her life until after she landed her first record deal. She waited a long time for her big break, and when it finally came, she decided to measure her life by her successes, experiences and vacations.
“I have calculated my life through albums, creative experiences, professional accomplishments and vacations,” Carey wrote. “I live from Christmas to Christmas, from one celebration to another, from a moment of celebration to a moment of celebration, not counting my birthdays or my ages. (Much to the chagrin of some people.) “
Mariah Carey doesn’t want to let go of her inner child
Another reason Carey doesn’t recognize time is because she wants to preserve her inner child. The singer mentioned that she had a difficult upbringing, so this is her way of keeping the fun and innocence of the childhood she says she didn’t experience.
“Not living by time has also become a way to hold on to myself, to hold me close and to keep that inner child of mine alive,” Carey wrote. “This is why I gravitate towards enduring characters like Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and Tinker Bell. They remind me that we can be timeless.”
Focusing on time is “a waste of time,” according to Mariah Carey
Yet another reason Carey doesn’t focus on time is because she doesn’t think it’s the best use of her time. For her it is “a waste” to focus on days and years. He prefers to focus his energies on creating good memories.
“It’s a waste of time to fix yourself on time,” Carey wrote. “Often the weather can be bleak, dahling, so why choose to live there? Life is about the moments we create and remember. My memory is a sacred place, one of the few things that entirely belong to me. “
