Bob Costas formally separated from NBC after almost 40 years as a Peacock sports journalist.
Costas and NBC have negotiated an exit agreement for months. Last summer it emerged that he was preparing to finish his term with the network.
Costas confirmed the news in an interview with the New York Post. "Everything is solved quietly and happily for everyone involved," Costas told Post.
A representative of NBC Sports also confirmed the separation. His last contract must have passed 2021
The departure of Costas was expected after announcing his retirement from the Olympic cover in 2017.
He also stopped dealing with the NFL games among his increasing criticism the game budget takes on brains and bodies of professional players. Those decisions left Costas with little to cover for the Peacock.
Costas is a 28-time Emmy winner known for his explicit views and in-depth coverage of sports and its impact on culture.
