Steve McLendon made four tackles for the Jets in Sunday̵

7;s 24-0 defeat to the Dolphins. Moments later, the defensive equipment was in the process of being handed over to the Buccaneers, according to Rick Stroud of Tampa Bay Times. In addition to receiving McLendon, the Buccaneers will receive the Jets’ pick of the seventh round of 2023 in exchange for their pick of the sixth round of 2022, according to Stroud.

The addition of McClendon will help fill the void left by Vita Vea’s late-season leg injury suffered during Tampa Bay’s week 5 loss to the Bears. A former rookie not caught in Troy, the 6-foot 3 310-pound tall McLendon cracked the Steelers’ roster in 2010, appearing in seven games that season while helping Pittsburgh win their third AFC title in six years. McClendon remained in Pittsburgh throughout the 2015 season, receiving 31 regular-season games in 79 games. From 2013 to 2015 (his last three years with the Steelers), McClendon made 30 games and recorded 68 tackles during that period.

McLendon’s success in Pittsburgh led him to sign a three-year contract with the Jets during the 2016 offseason. He then signed two different extensions with the team, with the second extension making him a free agent after this season. In five seasons with the Jets, 34-year-old McLendon made 58 appearances in 64 games. He recorded 154 tackles, 28 tackles per loss and five bags.

McLendon will move from 0-6 Jets to a team of Buccaneers that have improved to 4-2 after defeating Aaron Rodgers and the previously unbeaten Packers on Sunday, 38-10. The defense of Tampa Bay, who scored in Sunday’s NFL game number 8, kept the Packers only 13 first downs and 7 out of 17 in third down efficiency. They also fired Rodgers four times and intercepted him twice.
