Five people were shot dead and five more wounded in Cancún after gunmen raided a bar in the Mexican city and opened fire.
The state prosecutors of Quintana Roo said Saturday's attack took place at a club called La Kuka, on a main road in central Cancun about 6 km (4 miles) from the seaside hotel zone of the Caribbean, located on the Yucatan Peninsula.
Prosecutors said four men with a long gun and three guns entered and started firing. Two of the wounded were in critical condition.
Violence has increased in Cancún and the state of Quintana Roo as a whole between the news on the Jalisco New Generation cartel moving into the area and fighting local gangs for control.
federal authorities of the month reported that 774 people had been killed in the state last year, more than double the 359 kills recorded in 2017.
Even in January, gunmen shot and killed seven people in a house in Cancún, an incident attributed by the authorities to a dispute between street peddlers.
State police said that at the time it was suspected that a suspected leader of the gang linked to the Jalisco gang was behind the attack.
