Associated Press, United Press International, CBS News and NPR News are expected to submit relevant documents to the Chinese government within seven days, Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a periodic press conference on Wednesday.
“China is forced to take these measures to counter the unreasonable suppression of the United States against the Chinese media in the United States,” said Zhao. “I am entirely self-defense.”
“US measures are based on the Cold War mentality and ideological bias,” added Zhao. “They severely damaged the reputation and image of the Chinese media and severely disrupted their normal operations in the United States.”
The Trump administration and the Beijing government have been engaged in numerous tit-to-tat targeting rounds for mutual media.
