LOS ANGELES, 11 February – Chinese cinema rides at the global box office this week with two science fiction films – The Wandering Earth and Crazy Alien – taking first and second place respectively. They are followed by The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part .
Frant Gwo's science fiction film, The Wandering Earth jumps straight to number one at the global box office, grossing over $ 172 million (RM699.9 million) worldwide. The success of the film is partly due to its release in China, on February 5, which also marks the Chinese New Year 2019.
Also demonstrating popular with the Chinese public, Crazy Alien grossed just over 77 millions of dollars during its opening weekend. The film does not have a release date in the United States yet.
The second adventure on the big screen Lego The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is placed in the third place worldwide box office.
The animated film directed by Mike Mitchell grossed over $ 53 million during his first movie weekend. The first film Lego released in 2014, has grossed over $ 469 million worldwide.
Last Week's Head, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World descends to the fifth place, adding yet a little more than 38 million US dollars to its global income.
