Hospitalizations in the county continued to decline, from 215 on Saturday to 196, while the number of patients in the intensive care unit dropped from 65 to 58, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency.
The county’s daily case count per 100,000 people is 5.2, and the seven-day rate of residents testing positive for coronavirus is 4.2%
The OCHCA reported that 737,558 COVID-19 tests were conducted, including 5,136 reported on Sunday. There were 45,197 documented recoveries.
The numbers came when people returned to county theaters this weekend. Regal Cinemas has reopened in Irvine Spectrum, and AMC has opened its largest locations across the county, both with limited capabilities to protect against further spread of the virus.
OC climbs on the state̵
Orange County was updated from purple to red in the California coronavirus monitoring system last week. The move allowed churches, theaters and other businesses to resume operations indoors, but with strict limits on capacity and other health measures in place.
Theaters, restaurants and churches are limited to 25% capacity or 100 people, whichever is less. Museums, zoos and aquariums can also reopen indoor activities at 25% capacity. Shopping malls can expand from 25% to half capacity below the red level, while gyms can reopen, but with 10% capacity.
Theatrical chains are also instituting many other security protocols.
Royal guests should always wear face masks while in the auditorium, unless they eat and drink. Two empty seats will be kept between the groups and the chain “is increasing our fresh air intake by 50% -100% from normal levels (which will help circulate more fresh air in the auditoriums)”.
Regal employees will undergo daily health checks, including temperature checks where required, will be required to wash their hands every 30-60 minutes and all employees will be required to wear masks.
Guests can purchase concessions with a mobile app while at the theater, but menu offerings have been reduced and self-serve condiment stalls are closed.
Regal’s Edwards Aliso Viejo and IMAX theater also opened on Saturday.
Meanwhile, AMC had reopened its Orange County multiplexes since Saturday, including Anaheim GardenWalk 6, Dine-In Fullerton 20, Orange 30 and Tustin 14 at The District.
AMC locations have capacity limitations and similar security protocols for guests and employees.
