Press release from the Joint Information Center of Humboldt County:

A sixth Humboldt County resident diagnosed with COVID-19 has died.

This individual, in his seventies, had been hospitalized for symptoms of COVID-19. Humboldt County Health Officer, Dr. Teresa Frankovich, expressed her sympathies, saying her heart goes out to this person’s loved ones and to all who mourn this loss.

Twenty-six new cases of COVID-19 have been reported since Friday, bringing the total number of county residents testing positive for the virus to 473.

“The recent increase in the number of cases is very concerning,”

; said Dr. Frankovich. “If we continue at this pace, we risk moving to the ‘Substantial Level’ or Red Level in the new state framework. This increase not only has health implications for our community, but can also impact our local businesses, many of which which should downsize their operations or, in some cases, close operations “.

Dr. Frankovich stressed the importance of adhering to prevention measures to reduce the risk of transmitting COVID-19. “There are tools available to all of us to limit the spread of this virus. Wearing face covers, practicing frequent and thorough hand washing and avoiding encounters with those outside your family continue to be the best ways to protect yourself and your family, “he said.
