Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson supports Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the first public presidential endorsement



Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on Sunday launched his support behind the Democratic candidate Joe Biden and Vice President Senator Kamala Harris in his first public presidential endorsement. The actor and former wrestler made the announcement in a seven and a half minute video posted on his social media platforms.

“As an independent and centrist politician for many years, I have voted for the Democrats in the past and also for the Republicans”, Johnson wrote on social media. “In these critical elections, I believe Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the best to lead our country, and as my first ever presidential (public) endorsement, I proudly support them for our US presidential office.”

The video of the announcement included a virtual conversation Johnson had with Biden and Harris, which also marked her first meeting with the Senator, who she said was a “huge fan” of her films.

As an independent and centrist politician for many years, I have voted for Democrats in the past and also for Republicans.

In this critical election, I believe that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the best to lead our country, and as my first ever presidential (public) endorsement, I proudly endorse them for our US presidential office.

During the chat, Johnson praised the careers of politicians and called them both “leadership experts”.

He said Biden “led, in my opinion, with great compassion, heart and guidance, but also soul.” He also called Harris a “certified badass”.

The star went on to ask Democratic leaders how are they going to “earn the respect of all the American people once you are in the White House?”

Biden explained that they will keep their word, tell the truth and take responsibility. “When we fail, acknowledge it. We won’t be perfect, but we take responsibility,” Biden said. He added that their administration “will look like America. It will represent all of America.”

Harris said earning respect is “a matter of trust,” adding that “one of the foundations of trust is the truth” and that they must tell the truth to the American people. Citing the coronavirus pandemic and its effects, Harris continued, “to heal and overcome this, we will have to be honest about what healing will require.”

Video has over 9 million views on Twitter as of Sunday night, plus over 303,000 likes and 85,000 retweets.

Biden posted video of their conversation, thanking Johnson for his support and joking “next time we talk about cars”. Harris he also shared the video, welcoming Johnson to “Team Joe”.

Johnson became famous as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar. He announced that he retired from wrestling in August 2019.

WWE was founded and built by a husband and wife couple, Linda and Vince McMahon. The couple have been friends with President Trump for over 20 years and they were among the most prolific donors of Trump’s election campaign.
