(AllHipHop News) New dad Eddie Murphy is shooting one of his most famous roles for the sequel to Coming To America.
Paramount Pictures bosses exploited Hustle and flow director Craig Brewer to take command of the sequel to the 1988 comedy, in which Murphy played an African prince chasing a wife in New York.
Brewer has just directed Murphy in Dolemite is my name and it seems that the two men went so well they started talking about the project between the shootings.
The "black-ish" creator Kenya Barris is re-elaborating a screenplay by Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield, who wrote the original Coming to America, while Murphy is among the producers.
Reportedly, the sequel will revolve around the son of Murphy's character, Akeem.
The prince returns to America to meet his unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda.
Arsenio Hall, who acted as the helper of Prince Semmi, Shari Headley and James Earl Jones, all expected to return for the sequel.
"After many years of waiting, I am thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward," Murphy said in a statement. "We have assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who has just done an extraordinary job on Dolemite, and I can not wait to bring all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen."
Barris admits to being enthusiastic about being part of the project, adding: "Craig's ability to create a distinct cinematic world with each of his films is not only impressive, but also what made it exactly the voice and vision we needed to bring this story to life: From "Hustle and Flow" to his work with Eddie in "Dolemite Is My Name," he never fails to blow me up. He is a true author and we could not be more thrilled to have him on board. "
" My Name Is Dolemite ", which has been recently encapsulated, interprets Murphy as the self-made" blaxploitation "movie star.
Wesley Snipes, Keegan-Michael Key, Chris Rock, Craig Robinson and TI also appear in the film Netflix.
