Elon Musk says Tesla will unveil “a lot of exciting things” at its Battery Day on September 22, as speculation has gone wild.
Tesla’s Battery Day and Shareholders’ Meeting has been anticipated several times.
Battery Day was initially delayed for unknown reasons and were later both pushed simultaneously due to the COVID-19 pandemic as Tesla sought to combine the events with limited in-person participation.
Last month, Tesla announced that it would instead hold its shareholders’ meeting virtually and Battery Day mostly virtually with limited in-person attendance for randomly selected people.
It will be held on September 22nd.
At the event, Tesla is expected to come up with its plan to secure the supply of battery cells to support its ambitious increase in electric vehicle production.
At the heart of this plan, the automaker has developed its own battery cell manufacturing process called Roadrunner.
Earlier this year, Electrek exclusively revealed Tesla̵
Tesla built a “Tera battery manufacturing plant” at its facilities on Kato Road near its factory in Fremont to house the project.
The new battery manufacturing system should be the main focus of the event, but the scope could be much wider as batteries allow for most Tesla products.
Now CEO Elon Musk promises Tesla will unveil “many exciting things” at the event:
What could they be? Speculation is raging.
I would argue that a manufacturing process that is quickly deployable and makes great low-cost battery cells is the most exciting thing Tesla can announce, but we’re also expecting some “one more thing” announcements.
When we first reported on the Roadrunner project, a source said Tesla had plans to use pilot production line batteries to make a new S Plaid model to be unveiled on battery day.
Obviously, that was before Battery Day was delayed, but I think that’s more likely than ever now.
Tesla is expected to unveil the Model S Plaid this summer and if it ends up using new Roadrunner cells, it would be the perfect time to unveil it on battery day.
Now people are speculating on many more potential products to be unveiled on battery day.
Earlier this year, we reported on Tesla’s secret Palladium project, which includes not only a new powertrain for Model S and Model X, but body modifications as well.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this was unveiled alongside the Plaid thruster.
What else? Interior of the new S / X model? Model 3 with Model Y improvements such as the heat pump? Updated Roadster prototype? What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments section below.
