EVERETT (CBS) – Encore Boston Harbor announced Monday that it is providing around 3000 employees as it prepares to open to guests on a limited basis when Massachusetts enters Phase Three of its coronavirus reopening plan.
The resort has been closed since March 15 due to the coronavirus. Although the third phase is scheduled for July 6, Governor Charlie Baker has not yet announced a specific date.
When allowed to reopen, the casino said it will open reduced-capacity play areas. The services will also reopen with new guidelines in place, as well as sales of food and drink and the hotel with capacity restrictions.
Although some employees in the reopened areas of the resort will return to work, approximately 3,000 employees and managers will be laid off. Encore called the ruts part of “very difficult decisions”
“Some of these employees will return to work for training when we have a definitive reopening date. The rest will remain dormant until corporate demand dictates a return, “Encore said in a statement.
Wynn opted to pay employees across North America until May 31, which is approximately 75 days, at a cost of approximately $ 220 million.
