Dr Anthony Fauci says the coronavirus pandemic should get “really, really bad” before favoring a national blockade. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases and a leading voice on the pandemic, speaks to Dr. Jon LaPook for a report that will be broadcast on the next edition of 60 Minutes, Sunday, October 18, at 7pm, ET / PT on CBS.
An excerpt from that interview was aired on Friday night on “CBS Evening News with Norah O̵
“How far should things go for you to support a national bloc?” LaPook asked Fauci in the clip.
“They should get really, really bad,” Fauci said. “First of all, the country is fatigued by restrictions. So we want to use public health measures, not to hinder the opening of the economy, but to be a safe door for the opening of the economy. So instead of having a opposition: opening up the economy [to] retrieve jobs or close. No. Put “close” and say, “We will use public health measures to help us get safely where we want.”
