Ferris Bueller’s charity meeting turns into a stormy star tribute to the great John Hughes

Artemis Fowl star Josh Gad ended her Reunited Apart webseries on Sunday by reuniting the cast of the acclaimed teenage comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off from 1986.

But the 45-minute charity special on the classic that is leaving the class eventually turned into a real tribute to its director, the late John Hughes.

Topics revisited included the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder, which in most scenes was actually a shell replica on a Ford V8 aerobatic car.

“There was a very nice Ferrari that we were only allowed to get close to,” recalled Matthew Broderick – who played Ferris Bueller -.

“It was a Ford with a glued plastic Ferrari on it.”

Gad was shocked to hear that Broderick injured his knee while filming the climatic rush scene, which hindered his performance during the parade scene.

It was at the Von Steuben Day parade that the choreographer Kenny Ortega originally met Jennifer Gray (who played Jeanie Bueller) before working together on Dirty Dancing.

Other memories were told by Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Ben Stein, Lyman Ward and Cindy Pickett – which revealed that the two youngest Buellers were completely cut from the film.

“If you look at the kitchen scene, their designs are still on the refrigerator,” Pickett – who played the unsuspecting mother Katie – noted.

“Kindergarten drawings.”

Josh enlisted superfan Jake Gyllenhaal to ask questions about the ensemble where it was revealed that all the vanity plates in the film were referring to John Hughes’ films.
