Following the news of Tesla’s Model 3 2021 update earlier this week, let’s now take a first look at Tesla’s new center console coming with the update.
Earlier this week, we learned that Tesla is releasing an update to the Model 3 with several updated features.
The new vehicle is listed as model year “2021,” which is a rare actual model year change for Tesla, and is starting to roll off the line at Tesla’s Fremont factory.
We saw the vehicle, but we weren’t able to share any photos, so we just listed the new features we could visually confirm.
One of the biggest changes has been a new center console and now that more Model 3 vehicles are produced with the update, some people are starting to spot them.
@jstesla on Twitter shared the first image revealing the new design:
As we reported earlier this week, Tesla got rid of the piano̵
It has incorporated the phone charge into the top section, which is now wrapped in the faux leather material on all sides.
The middle section now slides open instead of with a tilting system in the previous version.
Here is a picture of the old Model 3 center console for comparison:

What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
As for me, I much prefer the new design. While the old is more minimalist and clean, I think the new design is more refined and luxurious.
The different finish makes a big difference.
As for the mechanism, a more robust sliding system. as in the Model S and Model X, it is preferable to the fragile tipping system of the current Model 3.
Again, I also think it’s interesting that access to the USB ports may have changed as the space under the phone charger now seems very difficult to access.
It could imply that Tesla has built-in storage for TeslaCam and Sentry mode. We will have to wait and see.
