Throughout this monotony, Motorola quietly sat on the sidelines. But it has not been completely removed from the confusion –that plans to release a folding phone, which is . A renewed Razr has the potential to be the best of all the other folding phones that come out. After all, before smartphones were one thing, which could very well fit in with the emerging was foldable phone.
The Motorola Razr patent indicates a classic design with a folding screen
In January, the Wall Street Journal reported that Motorola was re-launching its Razr brand with a new $ 1,500 device. Later, a patent deposit discovered by 91 Mobiles included illustrations of what a new Razr phone could be.
The illustrations suggest a design similar to the original, but instead of the interior space divided by a hinge that divides the display and the keypad, the "new" Razr would be entirely displayed. Apparently the screen would be flexible enough to fold in half and the curved bulge of the screen (once closed) would be hidden inside the body of the phone.
If these markups are accurate, Motorola is taking a more practical approach than Samsung and Huawei. Instead of a phone that opens on a tablet, the Razr's small size would still mean that it remains a pocket object.
Tuesday, the XDA Developers enthusiast site shared the alleged characteristics of the Razr:
- Main display: 6.2 inches; 2,142×876 pixels
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 710
- RAM: 4 or 6 GB
- Storage: 64 or 128 GB
- Battery: 2,730 mAh
- Colors: White, Black or Gold
The display on the original Razr was only 2.2 inches. A 6.2-inch display bodes well for people who prefer the bodies of small phones with as many screens as possible. The processor is a curious choice. Instead of a Snapdragon 855, it uses a Snapdragon 710 found in phones like Galaxy A8 and Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. It will be interesting to see how Motorola optimizes things for the processor.
Like the original Razr,. This could offer a little more functionality with some of Motorola's apps like Moto Display, Moto Camera and Moto Actions.
The Razr is already a "folding" phone success
The Moto Razr was the first mainstream mobile phone. It was extraordinarily thin (about half an inch thick) with a shiny metallic finish and was available in tons of colors. When you held a Razr, it didn't seem light or cheap and putting it in your pocket was effortless.
Although folding phones are the new "hot" thing, we really have no idea how this folding trend will touch. Despite being released 15 years ago, Razr still has a lot of name and brand recognition. With its weight, more people would be interested in this phone not because of its folding display but because it is a new Razr.
New losses show useful software features of the Razr
Last Thursday, XDA Developers shared some of the Razr's supposed software features. One of these is the ability to use the external display as a trackpad when open. This is similar to the One Button Nav found on some Motorola phones like thewhich uses the fingerprint reader as a mini trackpad instead of the screen itself.
Rumors also say that Google Assistant will be an important part of the device and a feature will be available to activate it when the phone is closed.
In recent years, Motorola has a great reputation for the way it uses the Android operating system on its phones. The software is close to stocks, except for a handful of shortcuts added by Motorola.
Since the Razr is not a "phone that turns into a tablet", it avoids the chaos of the software that both the Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X have to confront to make their devices easy to use. If Motorola sent the Razr with nothing but Android 9 Pie and some add-ons, it should receive a warm welcome.
The Razr would be the cheapest folding
When Motorola released the original Razr in 2004, it cost $ 450 with service, which is around $ 725 if adjusted for inflation. The new folding Razr could cost $ 1,500, according to the Wall Street Journal. It is more expensive than any other phone sold today.
But compared to the Galaxy Fold, which costs $ 1,980, and the $ 2,600 that is expected to pay for the Mate X, the Motorola Razr is a "bargain" for folding phones.
and Huawei has also said that it is also working on some. But there is nothing definite yet.
So, once again, the Razr has a household name and a design that can influence people to open their wallets. Motorola will also limit production to only around 200,000 units, according to the same report. This limited availability will probably push more people to take a chance on the phone.
Will any of this come to light? Or are all these voices and drawings just a funny fantasy? We will have to wait until this summer to find out more. So check back often when we update this story as more details are revealed.
