Former Yankees right-hander reaches deal with Blue Jays

David Phelps and Toronto Blue Jays have agreed a one-year $ 2.5 million contract, a person familiar with the negotiations told the Associated Press.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity on Thursday evening because the agreement had not yet been announced.

Phelps – a free 32-year-old agent who is returning from the Tommy John surgery who has been playing for the Yankees for three seasons – has performance bonuses in the deal, and the Blue Jays have an option 2020 team that includes an escalator.

He snatched the ulnar collateral ligament in his launch arm on March 17 during his last launch in a spring training contest against the Angels in Los Angeles, and operated on March 26th.

Phelps was the 2-1

with an ERA of 3.12 in 10 appearances in 2017 for Seattle, who bought it from Miami on July 20th. He had a salary of $ 5.55 million last season.

During six major seasons with the Yankees (2012-14), Miami (2015-17) and the Inte Mar, Phelps is 30-33 with an ERA 3.89 and five saves in 64 starts and 164 appearances in relief.

His agreement was reported for the first time by ESPN.
