A phrase now deleted from a Google France blog post suggests that the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G will be available for pre-order on October 8th. The two phones were announced this week alongside the Pixel 4A (which is now available for pre-order), but Google is yet to share the official pre-order dates for the phones, saying only that they will “arrive in the fall”.
The involuntary escape was reported by 9to5Google, after a reader spotted the pre-order date for the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G mentioned in Google France’s official Pixel 4A announcement post. That mention has since been deleted from the post (although it can be seen on the cache page), with the offer from Google 9to5Google no further comment on the matter.
It’s a leak and it could be something of a mistake, but an October 8 preorder makes sense. Google regularly announces new hardware in October, giving us Pixel 4 on October 15, 2019, Pixel 3 on October 9, 2018, and Pixel 2 on October 4, 2017. There is no reason to think that the company will change this model just because the delays to the Pixel 4A led him to announce Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G in advance. And to top it all off, an unrelated series of documents leaked from Google also identified by 9to5Google notes that Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G will be launched in October.
In other words: if the mid-range Pixel 4A isn’t enough for you, you only have a couple of months to wait to learn more about the higher spec Pixel 5 and 5G capable 4A.
