Jill Duggar is fast becoming a fan favorite, as she has taken a step back from the rest of her family. Her husband, Derick Dillard, initially poured tea that Jill is hanging out with her father, Jim Bob Duggar. Now, Jill and Derick are providing their fans with even more information via YouTube Q&A videos.
In a video released on October 7, Jill explained why she and Derick no longer film Counting on. But he didn’t mention Derick’s firing. Here’s what he said.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar brought their 19 children into the spotlight over a decade ago, and their grown children took the torch with TLC Counting on. Although Jill and Derick were initially involved in the show, things have changed. Now, the couple doesn’t make any appearances and it looks like they’ve also been modified from the scenes from the family celebrations and events they attended.
Jill discussed leaving Counting on to his fans in his question and answer video. “We left the show three years ago because, basically, our family goals we had for ourselves weren’t in line with what we discovered … we ended up finding that we didn’t have as much control over our lives as it related to the show. “explained Jill. “We had to make a decision at that time to put the show aside to pursue our goals.”
Derick then intervened and said he “learned some information shortly before” having to “stop filming” which forced them to choose between their “family goals or filming”.
Jill didn’t mention anything about TLC’s firing of Derick
Jill and Derick give relatively vague explanations of why they left the show in their questions and answers. And it’s very different from what happened on Twitter several years ago.
In the summer of 2017, Derick posted a series of transphobic tweets against TLC co-star Jazz Jennings. Derick intentionally misgendered Jennings in his tweets and caused a lot of fanfare.
“What an oxymoron … a ‘reality’ following a non-reality. ‘Transgender’ is a myth,” Derick tweeted. “The genre is not fluid; it is ordained of God. “
TLC then announced that Derick’s views do not represent his own and that he was fired from the network.
Since then, Derick has claimed that he and Jill actually left the show on their own accord. An Instagram user claimed that Derick’s transphobic show was “a strategic way out of the show, because as he said, he was driving them to the brink of insanity, further making a film about the abuse victims so that the show could to continue …”. Derick “liked” this comment.
Will Jill and Derick be back on the show?
So, Jill and Derick will never come back Counting on? It looks like it might be a possibility, but the couple are unwilling to return without making significant changes to their contract.
“We’re not going back to the show in the circumstances we were in at the time we left,” Derick said in the Q&A video. “Just like a family, we need to be able to make decisions that allow us to navigate our lives and have the information and control so we know if we can even plan something for our lives.”
Jill later said that if they returned to the show, it probably wouldn’t be full time. “Right now, we have no plans to participate in the show again,” he added.
We can’t wait to hear more about what Jill and Derick are up to in the near future!
