Joshua Jackson will replace Jamie Dornan in the Peacock – Deadline limited series

Joshua Jackson (Small fires everywhere, The Affair) was cast for the title role in Peacock’s Doctor Death. He will star alongside Alec Baldwin and Christian Slater in the limited series produced by UCP based on the podcast of the same name Wondery.

Jackson replaces Jamie Dornan, who was cast for the role in August 2019. Due to Doctor DeathSince the delay in the start of production related to the coronavirus pandemic, Dornan’s schedule no longer allows him to do the series, leading to his departure. For the same reason, Stephen Frears recently came out as director of the first two episodes. He was replaced by Maggie Kiley, who leads an all-female filmmaking team on the show.

Production in progress Doctor Death starts this fall.

Written by Patrick Macmanus, who serves as showrunner, Doctor Death is based on the terrifying true story of Dr. Christopher Duntsch (Jackson), a rising star in the Dallas medical community. Young, charismatic and seemingly bright, Dr. Duntsch was building a thriving neurosurgery office when everything suddenly changed. Patients entered his operating room for complex but routine spinal surgeries and were either permanently maimed or dead. As the casualties piled up, two medical colleagues, neurosurgeon Robert Henderson (Baldwin) and vascular surgeon Randall Kirby (Slater) decided to stop him. Doctor Death explores Dr. Duntsch’s twisted mind and the failures of the system designed to protect the most defenseless among us.

Doctor Death is executive producer of Macmanus via its Littleton Road Productions banner and under its general agreement with UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and Taylor Latham are also executive producers via Escape Artists, as well as Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy of Wondery.

Directors on the series include Kiley, who will also executive produce the first two episodes; Jennifer Morrison; and So Yong Kim.

Dawson Creek At the moment, alum Jackson can be seen starring opposite Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington in the Hulu limited series. Small fires everywhere. He previously starred in the Showtime series The Affair and in Fox’s Fringe.

Jackson is represented by CAA, Anonymous Content and Hansen, Jacobson.
