Marathon Co. Health Department studies community exposure during a basketball game



WAUSAU (WAOW) – The Marathon County Health Department is investigating COVID exposure involving many young people in the area.

They say a young man was playing basketball with several other young people at Tenth Street Park, 935 Jackson Street in Wausau on Friday, September 18.

It was reported that the young people were present for a period of about six hours and many participated in basketball games.

One of the young participants tested positive for COVID.

The Department of Health said preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID apparently have not been used.

As a result, COVID exposure to many young people who were present and participating in basketball games.

“This kind of meeting; including many people, for a long period of time, who do not use preventive measures; is contributing to the dramatic increase in cases in our area, ”said Judy Burrows, head of public information, Marathon County Health Department. “This is the kind of activity that contributes to the spread of the community.”

Marathon County broke its daily record on Saturday
number of cases and is reporting 78 cases.

There are a total of 1,312 cases of COVID-19 in Marathon County.
