The Metal Slug series has been in action for more than a decade, with ports and republications the only top games that fans of the SNK run-and-gun franchise have had to get excited about. This will change soon, however, as SNK and developer Timi Studios are currently working on a new entry for mobile devices.
Metal Slug Code: J, which is only a working title for the game, is a side-scrolling shooter like the rest of the series, and has virtual buttons on the screen and an analog stick to manage shooting, aiming and movement, together to other actions. In a fast-paced game like Metal Slug, it remains to be seen if this will be effective, but the artistic style and music seem to be perfect for the series.
Vehicles are also available, which give extra firepower and armor when you encounter one in a level, and this will be necessary to take on some of the game’s most powerful bosses.
While a mobile game may not be exactly what Metal Slug fans were hoping for, developer Timi Studios has a good track record. He previously co-developed Call of Duty: Mobile and is currently working on Pokemon Unite, the recently announced MOBA for Nintendo Switch and mobile.
Metal Slug Code: J doesn’t have a release date yet, but you can check out the trailer for the ad above. Many of the original games are available on Nintendo Switch.
