City council candidate Heshy Tischler was arrested Sunday night in connection with the assault of an Orthodox journalist in Borough Park last week, police said.
Tischler, who is also Orthodox, was arrested at his Borough Park home and charged with unlawful detention and inciting the riot, according to police.
Videos posted on social media show Tischler being escorted by police in a dark minivan as dozens of people watch.
Tischler on Friday indicated he would turn into police on Monday morning after appearing to incite a rebellious crowd of protesters who attacked Jacob Kornbluh, a Jewish Insider reporter.
The fireman complained in front of the camera Sunday evening at the time of his arrest, saying he was “duped”
“I called, I also spoke to the boss. They deceived me. They are telling everyone that I should have been arrested tomorrow, “Tischler said in a video posted on Twitter by Yaakov Pollak.
The bust comes after Mayor de Blasio said Friday that an arrest was approaching for the beating of Kornbluh.
Kornbluh was punched and kicked last Wednesday by an angry mob who yelled at him, calling him “Nazi” and “Hitler”, amid protests over new state restrictions on the coronavirus.
Some of the protesters were upset that Kornbluh had documented the Borough Park protests.
Tischler’s attorney Sara Shulevitz said on Sunday evening that her client was the victim of a “politically motivated arrest”.
“He’s not guilty and this is a politically motivated arrest and the truth will come out,” Shulevitz told The Post at the Brooklyn Criminal Court before Tischler’s complaint.

Soya Radin, the co-host of Tischler’s radio show “The Just Enough Heshy Show,” said de Blasio was behind the bust.
“Tischler has nothing to do with hitting anyone. Pure de Blasio, “Radin said in court.
