Google just confirmed that users who encounter an error claiming Android Auto is not compatible with Google Pixel will soon receive a fix in a new version of the app.
The issue only affects the Pixel 3a XL, says Google, and was first reported in late 2019 on the official Android Auto forums.
More specifically, users said that updating Android Auto was not possible simply because the app was no longer showing up in the Google Play Store, while using the direct link leads them to a message stating that “this app does not is more compatible with your device. “
Google began looking into what happens in mid-2020, and a member of the Android Auto team advised users to double check if the app they are trying to update is the full version and not the one meant to run on the phone screen. .
“If you are using Pixel 3, Pixel 3a and Pixel 4 devices on Android 1
“Pixel 3, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 4 devices do not need Android Auto for phone screens, which allows Android 10 devices to show the Android Auto app icon, as these Pixel devices already have the icon enabled. You are expected to get the error message if you are trying to update Android Auto for phone screens instead of Android Auto.“
This week, however, the search giant confirmed that it managed to fix the problem, and a future version of Android Auto will finally bring things back to normal on the Google Pixel 3a XL.
Google is expected to roll out a new Android Auto update next week, but at this point it is not yet known whether a fix for this compatibility error should be included or not.
