Pakistan Stock Exchange: Mulitple died after shooting of PSX gunmen in Karachi

Cops and security officials are among the confirmed dead, according to Mohammad Azeem, an official from the Edhi Rescue Center, an important local charity service.

Paramilitary and rescue security personnel are on the scene of an ongoing operation, Azeem said.

The video shows security and barricades off Karachi’s stock exchange, according to CNN affiliate Geo News.

Abid Ali, director of the Pakistan Stock Exchange, said in a media briefing on Geo News that four attackers entered the complex and started shooting but were killed by security forces.

“There were four attackers who came from the parking lot, threw a grenade at the main entrance of the KSE (bag) and then started shooting indiscriminately,”

; said Ali.

Security personnel gather at the main entrance of the Pakistani Stock Exchange building in Karachi on June 29, 2020.

“The attackers wore uniforms that looked like police uniforms, all four have been killed and the situation is currently under control.”

A Tweet from The official Twitter page of the Pakistan Stock Exchange said: “The situation is still unfolding and management, with the help of security forces, is managing security and controlling the situation,” he said.

“We will publish a more detailed statement in due course once the situation is under control and further details will be known. For now, the fire has stopped and reinforcements are underway,” reads the tweet.

The Pakistani stock exchange administration sent a message saying that “rangers” had entered the complex and that “four terrorists” had died.

The administration told workers inside the building to stay on the upper floors and that “rangers comb the complex and then leave everyone in an orderly fashion.”

The Pakistan stock exchange in Karachi is the largest in the country. It is located in the financial center of the city, where all the major banks and financial services are located and where there is usually a strong security presence.

This is a developing story.
