Shaq-a-Roni is launched on Monday at Papa John’s Pizza with the largest slices of the pizza giant to date, officials have shared exclusively with the USA TODAY.

Shaquille O’Neal, NBA Hall of Famer, Papa John’s board member and franchise owner, came up with the idea of ​​the 16-inch extra-large pizza that is topped with extra cheese and has 66 peppers. It is cut into eight slices against 10 in Pope John’s standard XL cake.

But it’s not too big for the retired 7-foot-1-inch NBA star to devour her in one sitting.

Until August 23, Pope John says he will donate $ 1 from each Shaq-a-Roni sold to the Papa John’s Foundation to build the community to “support communities while working together for equality, equity, respect and opportunities for everyone”.

Pizza, which is expected to be a time-limited menu item, was first developed for the annual Shaq’s Fun House event in early 2019.

In March 2019, Pope John’s announced that O’Neal would join the company in three ways: an investor, a new member of the board of directors and a brand ambassador.

Pope President and CEO John Rob Lynch said in a note to the USA TODAY that O’Neal had a big impact on the brand.

“It’s been just over a year since he got on board, so it’s the perfect time to launch a pizza that celebrates his role in our pizza family,” said Lynch. “Shaq believes in the power of pizza to bring us all together, so only his pizza of the same name will raise funds for important causes in our communities.”

The launch of the new pizza also comes with a new Snapchat AR feature, Papa John announced.

Using the Snapchat app, customers simply point the camera at the pizza box “to reveal a 3-D surprise”.
