ROANOKE, Go – The Virginia Department of Health said coronavirus cases are on the rise in the health districts of Roanoke City and Alleghany.
During her weekly update, Dr. Molly O’Dell with the Virginia Department of Health discussed increasing hospitalizations, deaths and outbreaks in Roanoke Valley.
As of Tuesday, there are 18 outbreaks across the region, 10 of them in a business setting.
O’Dell said the increase in cases and outbreaks is due to the lack of enforcement of COVID-1
“We found commercial practices for both screening and social distancing and adherence to the use of face coverage has decreased significantly,” explained O’Dell.
He said the increase comes at a bad time as health officials also start preparing for flu season.
These two health districts contain the cities of Covington, Roanoke and Salem and the counties of Alleghany, Botetourt, Craig and Roanoke.
