In a matter of minutes, it became clear that the Rockets would not have much competition from the Cavaliers. Having learned a lesson about their loss in Cleveland, and with the Cavs defense rising just a level of "miss it", the bear mascot had a better chance of getting a remission timeout with Oscar De La Hoya The Rockets, however, have found a challenge. They took the record book.
They did not collect those numbers enough, in addition to the last burst of James Harden. But the Rockets scored the most points in the first quarter, then they did more than a half, for three quarters and in one game, blasting the Cavaliers, 141-113, Friday at the Toyota Center.
With the victory, the Rockets completed the first half of the 24-17 season, with 13 wins in their last 16 games and 11 of their last 12 home.
"Tonight was very important for us to start well," said Harden. "The last game let us slip away.It was important for us to take care of business at home."
Harden surpassed 30 minutes in the second half, awarding him 15 consecutive games scoring at least 30 points, one of which was Kobe Bryant's Corsa, the longest in the NBA since the 1972-73 season.
When he surpassed three quarters, Harden scored 43 points with 12 assists and 10 rebounds, the final rebound bounced while it seemed PJ Tucker let it complete the triple-double with 1:22 left in the third quarter before the their evening would be over soon.
Having said that, Harden not only got his forty-two triple-double career, he had his fourth this season while he scores at least 40 points. The rest of the NBA has combined one.
Harden's last challenge was as much as the Rockets could offer to make the evening memorable. They needed less than three minutes in the second half to bring their lead to 35, scoring on each of their first four possessions entirely on drive or pull-up jumpers in the lane.
When the lead reached 40, the Rockets seemed to grow bored. The Cavs achieved 61.9 percent of the third-quarter shots, but they never reduced the lead to less than 25 points, as the Rocket regulars gathered few numbers and put their feet.
Nobody played more than 29 and a half minutes and Capela entered, with Capela adding 19 points. Tucker, who had been overworked in recent weeks, had passed after 26 minutes, scoring 10 points.
The Rockets pushed their lead up to 44, with the Cavaliers down, with the worst defensive standings in the NBA – surrendering at least 140 points in each of the first two games of their road trip.
Every player of the uniformed Rockets has scored. Each starter scored in double figures. Brandon Knight has 12 points out of season.
The Rockets were not particularly acute in the first half. They did not have to be. Harden crashed just before a triple double of the first, getting 24 points, nine assists and eight rebounds (along with two blocked shots and two steals). But even after the league's top scorer played with the various defenders that the Cavs sent in his path, the Rockets easily moved the ball, opening the eyes as if they were still prepared by the coach assistants in the pregame shooting exercises.
The Rockets made 14 of 27 3-pointers in the first half, bringing them well ahead at their pace when they set the NBA record with 26 3-pointers against the Wizards.
That was also a game in which the Rockets tried to make up for a loss of road and accumulated some of their biggest offensive numbers of the season. But the Rockets went further, matching the highest number of points in a quarter set that night against Washington with 42 and surpassing half their best scores of the season, taking an advantage of 77-49 in the second half. .
The Rockets never seems to pay close attention to the Cavaliers after, scoring too easily to look over their shoulder as they wait for the fourth quarter to start setting the time to clear the bench.
