Sixers Injury Update: Zhaire Smith (knee) will not join Sixers in Disney World

This season of the NBA has been highly unpredictable.

Looking to the future, it is difficult to predict with much confidence, given the health and safety problems that coincide with the attempt to resume a season during a pandemic.

However, we do know at least who the Sixers are on in their eight seeding games. As a reminder, the team is currently in sixth place in the Eastern Conference but could end up in fourth place.

Here’s how we imagine the last eight games will come off:

August 1, 7:00 p.m. – Pacers
In their two defeats this year in Indiana, both without Joel Embiid, the Sixers were 12 out of 62 by three points, 6 of which 29 out of three wide open (20.7 percent), for NBA.com/Stats.

They shouldn̵

7;t rely on filming with Embiid in training. Embiid dominated head-to-head Myles Turner, and we will say that he is fresh, aggressive and effective in the first game of Sixers.

To win

August 3, 8:00 pm – Spurs
The Sixers should have little trouble scoring against Spurs’ defense, ranked 24th in the NBA. Tobias Harris, who scored 26 points in the Sixers’ win against San Antonio on November 22, seems particularly ready for a big offensive game here. Spurs simply don’t have wing defenders who should be able to disturb him.

To win

August 5, 4:00 pm – Magicians

Davis Bertans’ decision not to play Orlando makes this game easier for the Sixers, at least on paper. Without their best shooter, Mages will depend heavily on Bradley Beal, who scored 36 points on December 21 in Philadelphia, but may need to make 50 for Washington for a chance. The Sixers scored 125 points that night against the Wizards’ worst defense.

To win

August 7, 6:30 pm – Magic
This is technically the closest thing to the Sixers in a road game. It would make a lot of sense if they lost it and dropped to 0-3 this season against Magic. They fought offensively against Orlando and have so far been slightly outdated in both games.

August 9, 6:30 pm – Trail Blazer
Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum and the Blazers are expected to test the Sixer pick-and-roll defense. Portland is among the best in the league in terms of pick-and-roll efficiency and the Blazer guards will damage the Sixers if their fall coverage is excessively conservative.

August 11, 4:30 pm – Alone
As early as November 4th, Al Horford had perhaps his most impressive game of the season. He scored 32 points and had five rebounds, four assists and two thefts in Sixers’ defeat against Phoenix, their first defeat of the season after a 5-0 draw.

Embiid (fight with Karl-Anthony Towns) and Deandre Ayton (positive test for the diuretic) were both suspended for that game. Although Ayton is talented, Embiid is clearly the top center and should give the Sixers the advantage here. The matchup also remains favorable for Horford.

To win

August 12, 6:30 pm – Birds of prey
Toronto has a three game lead over the Celtics and may very well have seed no. 2 stuck in this phase. It might not make a huge difference even if the Raptors decide to limit the minutes for their best players, since they have managed important injuries well this year, but it could help the Sixers a little.

We will expect Matisse Thybulle to play prolonged minutes and shine in this. Brett Brown insisted, before the league hiatus, that he was developing Thybulle with a playoff role in mind, and the beginner can consolidate a place for himself in the eight seeding games.

To win

August 14, TBD – Rockets
Again, each team’s ranking will be a significant factor. Like the Sixers, the Rockets are sixth in their conference but have the opportunity to get up.

The only meeting between the teams this year was one of Ben Simmons’ most encouraging shows such as screener and roller, as well as one of his best games ever. He had 29 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists. James Harden, meanwhile, somehow recorded an even more brazen triple double, finishing with 44 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

Harden is in a class of his own as an isolation marker, and has been dedicated to fitness for the past few months. It will be fascinating to see how rockets defend Embiid without a traditional center, but they look like a dangerous team.

Overall seeding game record: 5-3
