The PlayStation 4 firmware update 8.00 may have received the most negative reaction ever to a Sony console patch. Fans aren’t happy with the twisted new way of throwing a party to start chatting with their mates. However, it doesn’t appear that the functionality will be significantly changed on PlayStation 5, at least in terms of how it works. As part of yesterday’s UI reveal, Sid Shuman hinted at how you can share the images you capture with parties, which look a lot like the groups of messages we have to endure currently.
Towards the end of the demonstration, Sid chooses to share a capture of Destruction AllStars with some friends. Select a group called Nifty Voyagers, who can already be seen talking by voice from the headset icon to the right of the group name. For this reason, we have a lot of evidence to suggest that these parts will work similar to message groups where you can text message, start parties, and share media with your friends, all in one place.
Sid Shuman also reinforces this with the quote: “Remember, parties are bigger than just voice chat now”
