A state agent from Illinois was killed while on duty to respond to a road accident on I-294 in the Northbrook area, sources and sources said.

The accident occurred shortly after 6 pm. on the Northbound I-294 near Willow Road while the soldier was responding to an accident and was hit by a vehicle, a statement from the state police of Illinois said.

According to a source familiar with the incident, the soldier, assigned to the Tollway District, is dead.

The policeman was taken to Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, where he was pronounced dead, said Amy Ferguson, spokesman for the hospital.

The last state police soldier of Illinois killed while on duty was Ryan Albin, who died in June 201

7 following a road accident in the downstate involving a tractor-trailer near an area of construction.

On March 28, 2013, agent James Sauter, 28, of Vernon Hills, was killed while serving on I-294 near Northbrook. His police car had been parked in the lane of the southbound lanes when the driver of the trailer-semi-trailer crashed into it, the authorities had already said. The impact pushed Sauter's vehicle to at least 500 feet along the median before it exploded into flames.
