The Y model was first introduced in 2019 and will begin production towards the end of 2020. The vehicle will share approximately 75 percent of its components with the Model 3 sedan. This should help the crossover make it faster and produce less money for development. By September 2020, Tesla said it hoped to build 2,000 Y models a week.
