The City of Chicago wants a judge to force the FBI to hand over the Bureau investigation reports in Jussie Smollett case ̵
1; in particular his claim that he was the target of a racist and homophobic threat prior to the notorious alleged attack.
According to new documents, obtained by TMZ, the City wants to know what the FBI uncovered in relation to a letter that was sent to Fox Studios in Chicago on January 22, 2019, a week before Jussie claimed he was attacked. The letter contained an “unknown substance” and contained “racist and homophobic images and insults” … according to Jussie.
The City also wants the FBI records to cover the same “attack” … according to the documents. Basically, the Chi-town officials want to know if the FBI has uncovered any evidence of Jussie’s forgery the threatening letter or its “attack”.
What’s interesting here is that the documents show that the FBI told the city that disclosing any requested material would “disclose information acquired as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.”
The bottom line is … for now, the FBI refuses to hand over the results of its investigation because it hasn’t closed the case yet.
You will remember … in the aftermath of Jussie’s “attack”, President Trump he said the FBI was looking into the situation.
The correspondence between the City and the FBI is part of Chicago’s civil suit against Jussie for allegedly falsifying the attack. The goal is to force him to pay the cost of his investigation – and is separate from the new criminal charges filed by the special prosecutor.
