The LG Wing gets a price tag of $ 999 and an October 15 release date on Verizon

LG’s wild-looking Wing smartphone has a US price and release date: it will cost $ 999 and will be available on October 15, at least on Verizon, with pre-orders set for early October 1. The news confirms what many were already expecting from the dual-screen device: it won’t be cheap.

As is usually the case with the launch of a new Verizon phone, there’s also a variety of trade-in offers and discounts to help bring that price down. The company offers a discount of up to $ 750 when you add a line to an unlimited plan and swap a phone, up to $ 500 for existing Verizon Unlimited plan customers who swap a $ 250 Verizon device or gift card for new customers who are porting the line.

But even with those discounts, there̵

7;s no other way to cut it – you’re paying big bucks for LG’s new screen design. The Wing offers two displays, with one 6.8-inch main display sliding up and around to reveal a second 3.9-inch panel using a clever hinge mechanism. It also features a Snapdragon 765G processor with Qualcomm’s built-in X52 modem for 5G support, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, a 4,000mAh battery, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and support for wireless charging.

LG has also promised that Wing will be released on AT&T and T-Mobile later this fall, but there is no pricing or timing news for those models yet. It is unclear whether the Verizon model – which the company says supports its mmWave network – is a different version from the upcoming AT&T and T-Mobile variants (as has been the case with other phones, such as the LG Velvet). If so, the Verizon model may charge a premium for added network support, although we’ll have to wait for other operators to make their own announcements to know for sure.
