It was clear that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, believed their exit from the royal family was necessary. The control of the public and the media that accompanied their life in the spotlight had become overwhelming, so their decision to abandon their real duties was not a surprise. A new book states that Meghan in particular “found the bonds of royalty frustrating” and “burned too many bridges” when she and Harry left.
Prince Harry and Meghan decided to take a step back
After a long vacation break in 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan returned to real life with a surprising announcement: they planned to take a step back from their royal duties. Although the announcement seemed drastic, the queen worked with them to determine their exit plan, which included waiving HRH titles and any public funding to allow them to move on to the next chapter.
At the time, the queen made a statement in support of Sussex’s decision. “After many months of more recent conversations and discussions, I am delighted that together we have found a constructive and supportive way for my nephew and his family,” reads the Queen’s statement.
“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family. I recognize the challenges they have faced following intense scrutiny over the past two years and support their desire for a more independent life, “shared his statement.
Meghan reportedly struggled to adapt to real life
In the new book Royals at War, authors Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett claim that Meghan had a difficult time with real life because it was “difficult” and demanding.
“Meghan can be difficult. She has very high standards and is used to working in a Hollywood environment, “said an insider to the authors (via Express). “However, there is a different degree of respect in the royal family.”
Sources in the book also shared that Meghan “found the bonds of royalty frustrating.”
Additionally, Meghan’s move to work with the Sunshine Sachs public relations team to improve her image because she was reportedly “tired of the palace consultants and communication teams” was not going well with the building. They were reportedly “shocked” according to insiders, according to whom Meghan left an “indelible stain” on her working relationships with the royal family.

Harry and Meghan burned bridges
As if that didn’t create enough tension, Howard stated in the book that “Meghan had burned too many bridges” when he left the royal family. “The palace is managed by a hierarchy of councilors, helpers and equestrians who hold real power. It’s a very nice and lively place, “he remarked.
Howard continued, “Once Meghan freed herself from those ropes, there was no going back and the knives were actually out.”
Another royal expert had previously claimed that Prince Harry also burned bridges between Megxit. In an article written for the Daily Mail, the real editor Rebecca English remarked that “As a real insider – previously a great admirer – he said to me recently: ‘Harry gave up everything, literally everything. He burned every single bridge at home. What about Meghan? Well, I think he has what he wanted … ‘”
