The Walking Dead Negan is now a Magic The Gathering Card

Wizards of the Coast is teaming up with AMC’s The Walking Dead for a drop of Magic The Gathering Secret Lair. Earlier this year, MTG players got to see the Zombie Token Card for the first time, and now Wizards are revealing that Negan will be coming to play for the next limited-time set.

The Walking Dead Secret Lair launch will feature new cards for MTG and will be available for pre-order during a limited window between October 4-12, starting at 11:30 pm ET on October 4. One of the new cards is none other than Negan, the infamous villain in the series who has no trouble hitting the head with a baseball bat, who is played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan on the show. Check out the card below.

Negan is a 4/3 legendary creature with a very suitable ability. When the card is put onto the battlefield, you and target player each choose a creature that player controls, and then that creature – or those creatures – is sacrificed and you get a Treasure token. That treasure token gives you one colorless mana when you tap and then sacrifice it.

“The game design team was really able to express these rich characters with a few numbers and a couple of lines of rules text,” Wizards’ product architect Mark Heggen told GameSpot. “Negan is one of my favorite examples; when he hits the battlefield he has a unique rule that forces one of your opponents to play this sick mind game where they have to choose and sacrifice one of their creatures, but you can also enter theirs. test and get them to sacrifice more than they had to! It’s a fun time in the game, and it looks exactly like the real Negan would.

Putting The Walking Dead characters into MTG makes sense, as zombies have been a part of the card game for decades. “When we at Wizards started thinking about partnering with an outside partner, we created a long list of worlds and characters that we thought would be natural and exciting,” said Heggen. “The Walking Dead is a force of nature when it comes to modern horror storytelling, so it immediately jumped out to us as an amazing opportunity. I knew the AMC team would be a great partner, so we called them and just clicked everything in. location. “

If you want to get these cards yourself, you will need to order them from the Secret Lair website between October 4th and 12th, and if you get lost, you won’t be able to get them from Wizards of the Coast in the future. It is a one time deal.
