Belmont’s James Gate restaurant and pub hopes to identify a woman who intentionally coughed up a bartender last Friday. According to the NBC Bay Area, police are investigating the incident, which witnesses said occurred after a customer was angry that he was asked to wear a mask and stop hugging strangers.
The security camera footage released by the famous Peninsula restaurant shows the woman who appears to lean forward on the counter and cough directly on the bartender’s face. According to NBC, Belmont police are meeting with the bartender in question, who will decide whether to prosecute the woman – coughing someone intentionally became a crime attributable to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A similar incident occurred recently in a San Jose yogurt shop, in which a woman allegedly coughed a child. Later, she was identified as an employee of the Oak Grove school district.
