President Donald Trump is expected to announce his choice this evening to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court following the death of Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Trump̵
Ginsburg, who died aged 87 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, became the first female and first Jewish person to lie in a state on the United States Capitol on Friday. She was seen as a key figure in American law and as the leader of the court’s liberal wing.
President and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed to move forward quickly with filling the vacancy, infuriating Democrats who argue that whoever wins the November 3 presidential election should choose Ginsburg’s replacement.
Trump’s candidate would be the third judge he has nominated in court if confirmed.
