Waze underwent its first substantial visual renewal in its existence. Google’s traffic monitoring property has decided to reapply the logo and add more color to its design language.

Overall, the pastels are mistaken for five bright colors and in the past the touches of scettorismo have been further minimized. The sections are outlined with lines that mimic a road grid. The cartoon icon on the wheels is less oval, more circle (can fill boxes of icons better) and 30 existing moods have made the transition with more of them coming.

Waze’s creative director, Jake Shaw, wrote in a Medium post that the company asked 13,000 community members how they felt about the brand and made changes to make their art reflect that membership.
