NXT returns with another massive edition of its special event series on Sunday night, when NXT TakeOver: 31 takes place within the WWE Performance Center in what is now called the Capitol Wrestling Center. The five-game card features four bouts for the title, including Kyle O’Reilly challenging Finn Balor for the NXT championship and Candice LeRae coming forward to fight Io Shirai for the NXT women’s title.

Balor won the then vacant title on 8 September, defeating Adam Cole after an injured Karrion Kross was forced out of the championship due to a shoulder injury. O’Reilly secured his title in an eliminator challenge match on 23 September. In the same show, LeRae won a battle royal to become the No. 1

contender for the women’s championship and will now face Shirai at TakeOver 31 for the title.
