Young Houston doctor dies of COVID-19

Adeline Fagan was a promising young doctor from New York. She had just started her second year of residency in Houston and after recently treating COVID-19 patients, she contracted the virus on her own.

The 28-year-old doctor is not someone who is expected to suffer from horrible complications from the virus, but that’s exactly what happened.

In Dr. Fagan’s case, he eventually suffered a massive brain hemorrhage.

His father, Brant Fagan, wrote a post on the Go Fund Me account where people were donating for his hospital expenses. He said on September 1

9, “the world has stopped”.

After more than a month on a ventilator, which switched to ECMO treatment, her father said they finally had a few consecutive days of “wonderful progress” when there was emergency surgery to try and relieve a bleeding. cerebral.

Brant Fagan said he was told that brain bleeding can be a complication after a patient has undergone these types of treatments and there was a “one in a million” chance of surviving the surgery.

Not her.

Dr Fagan had just started her second year as a resident midwife at HCA Healthcare West (near the Gallery).

“We are heartbroken over the tragic death of Dr. Adeline Fagan. Our hearts go out to his loved ones, friends and colleagues. Dr. Fagan has touched so many lives and will always be remembered for her happiness and beautiful smile, as well as her dedication to mothers and babies, ”said HCA Healthcare.

Now the health community across the country is in mourning with his family.

Dr. Jesse O’Shea of Emory in Atlanta tweeted: “To her sisters and family, I am sorry with you. To my fellow health workers, keep on being careful.”

Baylor College of Medicine infectious disease expert Dr. Peter Hotez replied, “Thank you for your courage, compassion and heroism, Dr. Fagan.”

Doctors warn that young people cannot be too careful to take precautions to protect their health. There is an increased risk of strokes and heart attacks among coronavirus patients, regardless of their age.
